Turkish Minister threatens France over Genocide chapter in textbooks

PanARMENIAN.Net - Turkish Minister for EU Affairs & Chief Negotiator stated that France included a chapter on Genocide in history and geography textbooks in preparation for the next elections.

“Turkey is proud of its history and has nothing to be ashamed of,” Egemen Bagis said, accusing France of bringing up a “poisoned generation.”

As Turkish official noted, “we hope Hollande’s administration has given a proper assessment of the initiative, lest France may find itself on the losing side.”

“Friendship between Turkey and France is in the interest of both countries,” the official said.

Earlier, Turkey issued a diplomatic note to France over its decision to include the Armenian Genocide chapter in history and geography textbooks for French secondary schools.

Turkey's embassy in Paris issued the note in the form of official letters to the French Foreign Ministry and Education Ministry to protest the inclusion of the chapter, which, according to the embassy was based on “fake documents”.
