Universal’s "Ted" named world’s highest grossing R-rated comedy

PanARMENIAN.Net - Universal and Seth MacFarlane's "Ted", the tale of a trash-talking teddy bear, has become the world’s highest grossing original R-rated comedy of all time, TheWrap said.

Fox's "Taken 2" had a great second week, racking up $41 million from 36 markets, which easily led the foreign grosses. Sony's "Hotel Transylvania" added $13.7 million from 25 territories and Paramount's "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" took in another $10.4 million from 30 markets, to up its foreign overall gross to $465.2 million and its worldwide to $681.5 million.

"Ted" took in nearly $14 million from 44 overseas markets this weekend, upping its international gross to $250.5 million. With that, and a 16-week domestic gross of $218.5 million, the worldwide gross for "Ted" now stands at $469 million. That eclipses the standard established by "The Hangover," which took in $467.5 million worldwide in 2009.

"Ted" had a great second week in Italy, moving up to No. 1 with $4.2 million to raises it overall gross there to $8.9 million. Strong bows in France ($2.8 million) and Belgium ($1.8 million) helped, too.

"Ted" still has yet to bow in several markets, including Japan, where it will debut in January.
