Armenian energy safety impossible without new nuke power unit – official

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Chairman of the State Nuclear Safety Regulatory Commitее commented on Azeri demands to halt Nuclear Power Plant operations in Armenia.

“Operations of any NPP, even the most modern one, suggest some degree of risk. However, demands to halt operations, citing the plant’s “age” are unfounded, seeing as all safety terms in the plant’s operations are observed,” Ashot Martirosyan told a news conference.

The official named construction of a new nuclear power unit among Armenia’s priorities, with work to create safety regulations for a new unit currently in progress, with IAEA and U.S. experts involved.

“Armenian energy safety is impossible without a new power unit,” he stressed.

Martirosyan refrained from naming specific dates for the launch of construction, however noting that the site, approved by international experts, has been chosen.
