Official says EU integration priority for Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - European integration is a priority for Armenia’s foreign policy, co-chair of Armenia-EU parliamentary cooperation committee said.

“Armenia is actively involved in cooperation programs with the European Union,” Samvel Farmanyan said during a discussion on November 19.

He further deemed 2012 remarkable for Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement talks, with tangible progress recorded in negotiations on Armenia-EU Association Agreement, as well as Yerevan-Brussels bilateral visits and expansion of political dialogue.

Mr. Farmanyan stressed the importance of Euronest Parliamentary Assembly in deepening of ties with the EU.

At the meeting, the parties focused on the prospects of bilateral relations, and cooperation in the framework of international organizations.
Dwelling on the hike in gas prices, Iskandaryan said the change also affected other countries importing Russian gas.
Armen Martirosyan noted that the price rise will further deteriorate the situation in the country, fostering emigration.
In this connection, Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian left for Strasbourg to attend CoE foreign ministers meeting.
