Microsoft's Outlook.com tops 25 million users milestoneNovember 29, 2012 - 22:20 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Microsoft's Outlook.com has passed the milestone of 25 million users, Digital Spy said. The overhauled webmail service launched in July this year and has seen significant growth over the last quarter, attracting more than 6m monthly users. However, competitors such as Google's Gmail and Yahoo's own branded service maintain a stranglehold on the market, with the former boasting 425m global users as of June. Yahoo Mail, which launched almost a decade before its Google counterpart, is its closest rival with 92m unique users in the US alone. The Microsoft service is still in its infancy, but the platform holder is hoping to eat away at Gmail's marketshare, targeting its user base with a range of additional features. Microsoft recruited hundreds of Gmail users and had them test Outlook.com and provide feedback. The results were reportedly that four out of five participants declared they would switch to Outlook.com, praising its design, spam filtering and document-sharing options. Microsoft has also released a new Outlook Android app, compatible with devices running version 2.1 and higher, through Google Play.
