The drama depicts an ageing couple's attempts to cope when one of them is struck down with a debilitating illness. Reuters reports that the group, which is made up of 60 of the USA's most prominent and influential critics, gave the top prize to Haneke's film. The Austrian director also won 'Best Director', and star Emmanuelle Riva won the 'Best Actress' award. Daniel Day Lewis picked up the 'Best Actor' award for his turn in Steven Spielberg's “Lincoln”, while Matthew McConaughey won 'Best Supporting Actor' for “Magic Mike”, and Amy Adams won 'Best Supporting Actress' for her role in “The Master”. Amour is Austria's official submission for the 'Best Foreign Language Film' category at this year's Oscars. The film previously won the Palme D'or at the Cannes Film Festival, and swept the top categories at this year's European Film Awards.
