A24 nabs Oscar winner Sofia Coppola’s “The Bling Ring”

PanARMENIAN.Net - A24 has acquired domestic rights to Sofia Coppola’s “The Bling Ring,” starring Emma Watson, and will release the movie in theaters this June. The film, based on real events, follows a group of kids who tracked celebrities’ whereabouts in order to rob their homes, TheWrap said.

Watson stars alongside Israel Broussard, Katie Chang, Claire Julien, Taissa Farmiga and Leslie Mann. Paris Hilton, who was a victim of the real life ‘bling ring,’ also appears.

Coppola wrote and directed the film based on Nancy Jo Sales’ Vanity Fair article “The Suspects Wore Louboutins.” That article profiled these youthful hucksters, who stole more than $3 million worth of goods between October 2008 and August 2009.

Coppola, an Oscar winner for “Lost in Translation,” shot some of the scenes in the victims’ homes. This marks her fifth film as a director.

“Sofia Coppola is an iconic American filmmaker and she has focused her distinctive style and uncanny ability to capture the zeitgeist in ‘The Bling Ring,’” A24 said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be working with her and look forward to bringing her undeniably fun and incredibly stylistic film to audiences nationwide.”

Coppola produced the film with Roman Coppola, her brother, as well as Youree Henley. ICM Partners shopped it to A24, which also owns the rights to Roman Coppola's "Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III."
