Prior that decision, Azerbaijan has been actively lobbing against Armenia’s membership within the UN relevant bodies. However, due to the diplomatic negotiations and consistent efforts by the Armenian side, the UN General Assembly decided to appoint Armenia together with Costa Rica and Jordan as full-fledged members of the Committee. Becoming a COPUOS member, Armenia will further join 5 basic international agreements on peaceful uses of outer space, including Outer Space Treaty, formally the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies and others.
