Lithuania to form interparliamentary group with NKR

PanARMENIAN.Net - An official statement was issued during March 14 Lithuanian parliamentary meeting on formation of an interparliamentary group with the Nagorno Karabakh Republic.

According to delfi.lt news agency, deputy speaker Vytautas Gapšys read out the statement on creation of the group, making an announcement about the first meeting.

Former foreign minister Audronius Ažubalis voiced concerns that the initiative will harm the country’s foreign policy.

Nevertheless, one of the group founders Dangutė Mikutienė, in turn, noted that friendship groups were formed with other unrecognized countries as well.

“Lithuania is a democratic country. MPs are free to establish relations with parliaments of other countries, even if they have not been officially recognized,” he noted.
