Kocharian Called «Abnormal» Blockade of Armenian Borders by Turkey that Works for EU Accession

PanARMENIAN.Net - In his speech at Swedish Foreign Policy Institute February 8 Armenian President Robert Kocharian called "abnormal" the situation, when Turkey, which works for EU accession, pursues a blockade policy against Armenia, involved in the European Neighborhood Policy. In spite of that, Armenia does not object to Turkey's potential membership in the EU, «as the process of accession will make it a more predictable country,» Kocharian said.

Kocharian also said Armenia «is frankly interested» in soonest stabilization of situation in Iraq. The Armenian leader remarked that Armenia's participation in the peacekeeping operation in Iraq is «modest.» «We had an embassy in Iraq before the war, however it is not operative today and we have not restored relations yet. We keep in touch with the Armenian community of Iraq and are frankly interested in soonest stabilization of situation in that country,» he said. Answering the questions of those present, Kocharian said that Armenian leadership does not have any links with the Kurdish administration in the north of Iraq, reported Mediamax.
