Georgian court dismisses Javakhk activist’s lawsuit against President

PanARMENIAN.Net - Georgian civil court has dismissed the lawsuit filed by Javakhk activist Vahagn Chakhalyan against President Mikheil Saakashvili, former Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili and former head of Samtskhe Javakheti administration Gogi Khachidze.

In a conversation with a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, Chakhalyan said the court refused his lawsuit by two reasons.

“First, they said, my demand was not clearly specified, although I indicated that I want formal apology from those officials. Second, the court said, I didn’t pay the fee of 3000 laris, although there is a regulation allowing to pay the sum when the court proceedings are over,” he said, adding that he was given 12 days to correct the mistakes and re-file the suit.

Chakhalyan was arrested by Georgian authorities on July 21, 2008. He was given a 10-year sentence for “organization of large-scale events, public disturbance, hooliganism and illegal possession of weapons,” based on falsified evidence.

Chakhalyan was released in January 2013.
