PanARMENIAN.Net - Even before it plays in theaters for public, "American Hustle" has scored some accolades. The David O. Russell-directed film was named this year's Best Picture by the New York Film Critics Circle on Tuesday, December 3, according to AceShowbiz.

The crime drama movie bagged two other prizes, including Best Supporting Actress for Jennifer Lawrence. In early this year, Lawrence won an Oscar for Best Actress through her role in Russell's other film, "Silver Linings Playbook".

"American Hustle" nabbed the third trophy from NYFCC for Best Screenplay, which was awarded to Eric Singer and Russell.

Robert Redford ("All Is Lost") and Cate Blanchett ("Blue Jasmine) won other top honors, Best Actor and Best Actress respectively. "Dallas Buyers Club" star Jared Leto was chosen as Best Supporting Actor, while Steve McQueen was hailed as Best Director for his work in "12 Years a Slave".

"Fruitvale Station" was dubbed Best First Film, "The Wind Rises" was Best Animated Film, and Palme d'Or winner "Blue Is the Warmest Color" took Best Foreign Film award.

The critics group will hand out its awards on January 6. Winners of the New York Film Critics Circle Awards often end up in the race for Academy Awards.
