PanARMENIAN.Net - Gabriel Byrne has signed on to star as Andre Sougarret in The 33, alongside Antonio Banderas, Juliette Binoche, Rodrigo Santoro and an award-winning international ensemble cast, Deadline said.

Sougarret was the engineering genius who masterminded the miraculous rescue of the 33 trapped miners in Chile in 2010. He became a familiar figure to the worldwide press, appearing before their cameras every day to provide technical info and updates about the search and rescue effort.

Produced by Mike Medavoy, Robert Katz and Edward McGurn and directed by Patricia Riggen, The 33 is filming on location in Colombia and will shortly move on to Chile’s stunning Atacama desert. Byrne next will be seen in Vampire Academy.
