PACE chief wants to travel to Armenia after Azerbaijan visit

PanARMENIAN.Net - The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has expressed a wish to pay a visit to Armenia, Panorama.am reported.

“When I decided to visit Azerbaijan, I immediately said that I will also visit Armenia,” Anne Brasseur said in Strasbourg.

“The duty of the PACE President is to understand the context of the problems. I constantly need to listen to both sides, in this case, of course, to both Armenia and Azerbaijan,” Ms Brasseur said, adding that the date of the visit has not been set yet.

Earlier, according to Panorama.am, Ms Brasseur refuted Azerbaijani media reports that during the press conference in Baku she had proposed to "holding a meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian communities of Nagorno Karabakh in Baku despite Armenia’s non-constructive position.”

Asked whether those publications reflect the PACE President’s words, a representative of the PACE President’s office said that the “President of the Assembly has asked me to thank you for your e-mail and share with you the press release summarizing the conclusions of her visit to Azerbaijan.”

“Referring to the conflict over Nagorno Karabakh, I would like to highlight that Ms Brasseur said that the “Assembly should not interfere in the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group, but we can help the parliamentary delegations of Azerbaijan and Armenia build confidence and develop dialogue,”” the PACE official added.
