Netflix cuts three-way deal for survivalist thriller series “Between”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Netflix has cut a three-way deal for original survivalist thriller series “Between”, under which the streaming service will premiere it alongside its debut on Canadian TV and subscription VOD, according to Variety.

The first season of “Between,” with six hour-long episodes, will premiere on Rogers Broadcasting’s City stations and Canadian SVOD service Shomi as well as on Netflix outside of Canada where the service is available. Then, one year after the initial premiere, “Between” will come to Netflix Canada. Additional broadcast details will be announced at a later date.

The series is created by writer/director Michael McGowan (“Still Mine,” “One Week,” “Saint Ralph”) and stars Jennette McCurdy (Nickelodeon’s “iCarly” and “Sam & Cat”). In “Between,” a town is under siege from a mysterious disease that has killed everybody — except for those 21 years old and younger.

“Teaming up with Rogers on ‘Between’ is a tremendous opportunity to work with a creative partner in Canada to bring our global viewers top-notch content,” Erik Barmack, VP of global independent content at Netflix, said in a statement.

The series is produced by Don Carmody Television, Mulmur Feed Co. and in association with Elevation Pictures Corp. Michael McGowan executive produces along with Don Carmody (“Resident Evil,” “Silent Hill,” “Goon,” “Chicago”), David Cormican (“The Tall Man,” “Faces in the Crowd”) and Naveen Prasad, EVP and g.m. of Elevation Pictures. Elevation will oversee worldwide distribution.

Principal photography for “Between” is slated to begin Monday. Jon Cassar (“24,” “The Kennedys”) will direct the first two episodes. From Rogers Media, Nataline Rodrigues is Director of Original Programming, Hayden Mindell is Vice President of Television Programming & Content, and Navaid Mansuri is Interim Vice President of Broadcast.

“Showcasing Michael McGowan’s cinematic vision on the small screen, this compelling new series, in partnership with Netflix and Shomi, delivers on our promise to offer viewers world-class entertainment,” said Nataline Rodrigues, director of original programming for Rogers.
