“Maleficent” star Brenton Thwaites to join “Pirates of the Caribbean 5”

PanARMENIAN.Net - “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”, the fifth installment of Disney's “Pirates” franchise, has zeroed in on Brenton Thwaites to join up with Jack Sparrow and company, TheWrap said citing an individual with knowledge of the project.

Johnny Depp is returning to play Sparrow, the charismatic and rum-soaked pirate running from one adventure after another on the high seas. Javier Bardem is also in talks to play the new film's villain, Captain Brand, a ghost bent on revenge against Sparrow, whom he holds responsible for the murder of his brother.

Thwaites is in talks for the role of Henry, a British soldier.

“Kon-Tiki” filmmakers Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg are directing the fifth film in the blockbuster “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, which has grossed $3.7 billion worldwide, making its next voyage a top priority for the studio.

Geoffrey Rush is expected to reprise his role as Barbossa, who could team up with Capt. Brand. Other returning cast members will likely include Ian McShane and Stephen Graham, and there could be cameos from Orlando Bloom and Keith Richards as well.

Jerry Bruckheimer is returning to produce “Pirates of the Caribbean 5,” which starts filming in February in Australia. Disney will release the latest sequel in July 2017.

Thwaites previously played the Prince in Disney's Sleeping Beauty redo “Maleficent” opposite Angelina Jolie and was most recently seen in YA dystopian adaptation “The Giver.”
