The announcement came Tuesday, Nov 25 at a press conference in Brussels given by Turkey’s Culture and Tourism Minister Ömer Çelik, Belgium’s Energy Minister Marie-Christine Marghem and Jacobs de Hagen, chairman of Europalia International, Turkish media reported. As the Turkish official noted at the press conference, creations of Armenian, Kurdish, Jewish artists will be presented at the festival along with Turkish ones. “Having hosted great civilizations within its rich history, Anatolia is one of the places where cultural production and diversity took place the most. Armenian culture is not foreign to us. We won’t be trying to break the culture of Anatolia into components, but rather, attempt to represent it in its wholeness,” he said. According to the Minister, the festival will showcase photos of reconstructed churches, with the event to host art, literature, film and architecture experts presenting Armenian culture to the audience. Also, a photo exhibition featuring mostly Armenian-created Ottoman palaces will take place. Europalia will showcase approximately 250 objects including archaeological treasures, sculptures, textiles and gold and silver objects from museums across Turkey.
