Bestselling author Warren Adler’s “Cult” to get film treatmentNovember 26, 2014 - 15:26 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Alex McAulay has come on board to adapt Warren Adler’s novel “Cult” for Grey Eagle Productions, according to Variety. The 2002 novel, published as “Cult: A Novel of Brainwashing and Death,” recounts the efforts of a husband to rescue his young and impressionable wife, who has been lured by her fanatical sister into the “Glory Cult” — a ruthless group in Oregon run by a charismatic guru. McAulay is also writing the screenplay for Adler’s “The War of the Roses: The Children,” the sequel to the 1989 film, co-produced by Grey Eagle’s Jonathan Robert Adler and David Permut of Permut Presentations. McAulay’s credits include HBO’s “Eastbound and Down” and he is writing a pilot in collaboration with Jody Hill for a new HBO series to be produced by Rough House Pictures. Other Grey Eagle projects include “Target Churchill,” co-developed with Solution Entertainment Group; “Mourning Glory,” to be adapted by Karen Leigh Hopkins; and TV series “Capitol Crimes,” based on Adler’s Fiona FitzGerald mystery series, co-developed by Sennet Entertainment with Eric Overmyer as showrunner.
