Monument to Armenian Genocide female victims unveiled in ParisMarch 10, 2015 - 09:35 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - In the framework of events dedicated to the Armenian Genocide centennial and on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, on the initiative of La Croix Bleue des Arméniens de France (Blue Cross French-Armenian Union), 100 roses were planted Sunday, March 8, in Yerevan Park in Paris, commemorating female victims of the Armenian Genocide. Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo and Armenian ambassador to France Vigen Chitechian officially unveiled the memorial, (located near the statue of Komitas), with the inscription: “In commemoration of the female victims of Armenian Genocide; to those, who went missing, and to those, who survived and conveyed the memory.” A number of members of the Council of Paris, politicians, public figures and officials, representatives of cultural and media circles, hundreds of French Armenians and Parisiаns attended the event. In his remarks, ambassador Chitechian thanked the authorities of Paris and France for remembering the ancestors of their citizens of Armenian origin. The Armenian Genocide The Armenian Genocide (1915-23) was the deliberate and systematic destruction of the Armenian population of the Ottoman Empire during and just after World War I. It was characterized by massacres and deportations, involving forced marches under conditions designed to lead to the death of the deportees, with the total number of deaths reaching 1.5 million.
