Karabakh soldier dies in Azeri shooting

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Nagorno Karabakh defense army serviceman Levon Mirzoyan, born in 1995, was killed in Azerbaijani shooting on April 7.

The accident took place at one of the military units in the eastern direction of the line of contact, press service of the NKR Defense Ministry informs.

The investigation is under way.

Armenia’s Minister of Defense slammed Azerbaijan for the past days’ cross-border tensions as he met with the Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office in Yerevan on March 27.

Seyran Ohanyan briefed Ambassador Andrzej Kasprzyk on the ceasefire violations along the Nagorno Karabakh line of contact and the recent act of sabotage, noting that the adversary used higher caliber mortars during the attacks. The minister said he finds that the Azerbaijani leadership alone bears the full burden of responsibility for the escalations and their consequences.

Ambassador Kasprzyk, for his part, promised to invest his best efforts in stabilizing the situation.

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan

The conflict between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan broke out as result of the ethnic cleansing launched by the Azeri authorities in the final years of the Soviet Union. The Karabakh War was fought from 1991 (when the Nagorno Karabakh Republic was proclaimed) to 1994 (when a ceasefire was sealed by Armenia, NKR and Azerbaijan). Most of Nagorno Karabakh and a security zone consisting of 7 regions are now under control of NKR defense army. Armenia and Azerbaijan are holding peace talks mediated by the OSCE Minsk Group up till now.
