Sharp's 'Health Cockpit' rates your wellness while you sitMay 26, 2015 - 14:12 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Chairs are set to be the next household item to incorporate smart technology as Sharp is working on a seat that monitors your health while your rear is parked on it, Digital Spy reports. The Health Cockpit is a futuristic chair that resembles captain James T Kirk's perch on the bridge of the Starship Enterprise, expected to cost just shy of $12,000. The high-tech seat is capable of monitoring key health stats including body mass, blood pressure and blood sugar levels, and will be marketed to gyms and health insurance professionals. Sharp aims to ship 50 Health Cockpits by the end of its current fiscal year in March 2016, according to the Wall Street Journal. The Japanese firm is said to be in financial trouble following a decline in its panel-making business, resulting in a net loss of ¥222.35 billion during the quarter just gone. Sharp has already introduced cost-cutting measures to curb the deficit, but is now turning to its health-related services business in an attempt to return to profitability.
