“I Love Lakshmi” family comedy in development at NBC

PanARMENIAN.Net - NBC has put in development I Love Lakshmi, a multi-camera family comedy from Universal TV and studio-based Aggregate (Growing Up Fisher), Deadline reports.

The project is co-written by Muffy Bolding & Doug Prochilo and inspired by Prochilo’s real-life experience marrying into an Indian family (He is married to Universal TV president Bela Bajaria). I Love Lakshmi follows the trials and tribulations of new parents, Danny and Lakshmi, as they endure Lakshmi’s own meddlesome immigrant parents — whose version of the American dream never included a Danny.

At NBC, I Love Lakshmi joins another Indian American-themed comedy, Pre-Madonna, from Uni TV and Amy Poehler’s Paper Kite Prods., which has a put pilot commitment. Written by filmmaker Nisha Ganatra inspired by her adolescence, the project finds Sarita Gupta entering a Chicago high school in 1983 and navigating the painful and hilarious path of finding out who she really is.

Under Aggregate’s overall deal at Universal TV, the company also has set up multi-camera comedy Say Uncles at NBC with writer Elon Gold. Outside of the deal, the CAA-repped company has drama series Ozark — starring, produced and directed by Aggregate’s Jason Bateman — set at MRC.
