New details emerge in Hrant Dink’s murder case

PanARMENIAN.Net - New details keep emerging in the case of Turkey-based Armenian journalist Hrant Dink’s murder, Ermenihaber.am reports.

Six police officers dressed in civilian clothes were caught on CCTV cameras across the city while following murderer Ogün Samast at the moment of the journalist’s murder in Istanbul, Turkey.

The Istanbul Chief Prosecutor’s Office also confirmed there were special services officers on duty in the area at the moment of the murder, who kept the scene under surveillance.

Besides, Samast turned out to have made 3 calls from phone booths that were later moved from their initial locations.

Ramazan Akyürek, the former intelligence chief of Turkish police had deleted electronic and telephone logs of the National Police in 2011, that could help shed light on the murder.

Earlier, Samast appealed to the court, seeking to give a new testimony, also asking for a transfer to a prison in Istanbul.

Since he was sentenced by a juvenile court to 22 years in jail in July 2011, Samast has not attended hearings at the Istanbul 5th Heavy Penal Court.

Dink was one of the founders of the bilingual Turkish-Armenian Agos newspaper and was killed outside his office in Istanbul on January 19, 2007.

His murder sparked widespread protests and led to speculation about the involvement of far-right groups and claims of a cover-up.
