PACE’s anti-Armenian resolutions can have no legal consequences: MP

PanARMENIAN.Net - The adoption or disapproval of two anti-Armenian resolutions by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will not change anything, a lawmaker from Armenia’s ruling Republican Party told Tert.am.

“The PACE should abstain from applying double standards and escalating the situation in the South Caucasus region,” Gagik Melikyan said.

According to the MP, the resolutions will lead to tensions between the PACE and the OSCE Minsk Group, rather than have any serious legal consequences.

“We can use that tension to rule out any such discussions at PACE. I am pretty sure most of the MEPs are aware that the British and Bosnian lawmakers are pursuing serious personal goals. All this is evidenced by recent publications on granting Turkish citizenship to the British MP,” the Armenian lawmaker noted.

Melikyan didn't rule out the possibility for Armenia “to consider non-participation in the PACE's activities in terms of whether it benefits the country's interests.”
