Maternal, neonatal mortality rates drop twofold in ArmeniaJanuary 30, 2016 - 14:18 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Maternal, neonatal mortality and infertility rates have seen twofold decline in Armenia, the Health Ministry’s chief obstetrician-gynecologist said, Tert.am reports. “Besides, a drop was posted in the number of cases of artificial interruptions of pregnancy,” Razmik Abrahamyan noted on Saturday, January 30. “Last year, some 7000 abortions were performed against the 30.000 cases reported annually several years ago. With 30% of couples suffering from infertility in 2000, the rate has now dropped to 14.6%.” However, according to Abrahamyan, some issues, including miscarriage and preterm birth, need more in-depth research. “We have, overall, an 11% preterm birth rate. Though the figure is neither too high, nor too low, we face the problem of childcare afterwards,” the expert said.
