Azerbaijani escalates situation on contact line with Karabakh

PanARMENIAN.Net - The situation has considerably escalated on the line of contact between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan on the night of February 11-12, Karabakh Defense Army says.

Azerbaijani armed forces fired over 4500 shots from various caliber weapons, including 60-mm mortars, RPG-7, AGS-9 and AGS-17 grenade launchers in ceasefire violations in the reporting period.

Karabakh’s troops took retaliatory measures to continue controlling the situation on the contact line.

“The Armenian army is strong enough to restrain any aggression and develop necessary mechanisms to avert large-scale offensives,” Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan said on February 9.

“We are facing a number of challenges,” he said, addressing students and professors at the Yerevan State University. According to the official, the security sector is fragile enough to take any turn, but the Armed Forces of Armenia are able to maintain relative peace thanks to their combat readiness, the servicemen’s fighting spirit and a high morale.
