NBC greenlights Maya Rudolph-Martin Short variety seriesFebruary 15, 2016 - 17:45 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - NBC is committed to finding a primetime variety show. The network has officially picked up Maya and Marty in Manhattan, a long-gestating variety show starring Maya Rudolph and Martin Short, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. First reported by Variety, the series will debut in May and will be executive produced by Saturday Night Live guru Lorne Michaels; Rudolph, Short, Matt Roberts (Late Show With David Letterman) and Erin David will produce. The Rudolph and Short show will air live from NBC's New York headquarters inside 30 Rock. An episode count has not yet been determined. The series is expected to be a blend of musical numbers, comedy sketches and celebrity guests — effectively a continuation of Rudolph's 2014 variety special. For NBC, the project has been a long time coming. The network previously tried to launch a variety series this season with Neil Patrick Harris' take on Best Time Ever, which was canceled after one season. Maya and Marty also marks the latest incarnation of the network's Rudolph-hosted variety show that aired in 2014 and itself was the result of NBC's attempts to reboot scripted comedy Up All Night into a multicamera show-within-a-show series. Elsewhere, NBC is high on kid-focused variety show Little Big Shots, from exec producer Ellen DeGeneres and Steve Harvey.
