Oscar winner Hans Zimmer retires from “superhero business”March 31, 2016 - 17:03 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer has announced that he’s walking away from heroes in spandex after his work on “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” Variety said. “I have officially retired from the superhero business,” Zimmer told BBC Hardtalk. Zimmer is the mastermind behind the music for 2013’s “Man of Steel” and Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight” trilogy. But, after more than a decade of crafting music for one genre, the composer said he feels burnt out. “[‘Batman v Superman’] was very hard for me to do, to try to find new language,” the composer said. “I did ‘Batman Begins’ with Chris 12 years ago, so ‘The Dark Knight’ trilogy might be three movies to you; to me it was 11 years of my life.” Zimmer also created the scores for such films as “Interstellar,” “Gladiator” and “The Lion King.” And, while he is finished with the superhero genre, he is not done with the business as a whole. He is set to reteam with Nolan to score the upcoming WWII drama “Dunkirk.” Throughout his career, Zimmer has helped bring other composers to the elite ranks. Some of his apprentices have included John Powell (the “Bourne” films), Harry Gregson-Williams (“The Martian”) and Lorne Balfe (“Terminator Genisys”).
