Electric Entertainment nabs “The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Dean Devlin’s Electric Entertainment has bought all North American media rights for the drama “The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea”, starring Jason Sudeikis, Jessica Biel and Maisie Williams, Variety reports.

The film, which had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival last month, is set for a theatrical release later this year. It marks the second release for Electric Entertainment’s newly created domestic distribution division.

Bill Purple directed from a script he co-wrote with Robbie Pickering. Producers are Michelle Purple, Jessica Biel, Mike Landry, Carlos Velazquez and Chuck Pacheco, with music composed by Justin Timberlake.

The story takes place in the aftermath of tragedy striking a couple played by Sudeikis and Biel. He befriends a tenacious young girl, played by Williams, and discovers she is constructing a raft to sail across the Atlantic to find her lost father. Together, they set forth to construct the vessel and subsequently rebuild their lives.

“Jason and Maisie deliver brilliant performances in this film, and I think fans around the country will consider this a breakthrough for each of them,” Devlin said. “We are extremely proud to make this our second theatrical release from our new distribution division.”

Electric’s first release is the thriller “Blackway,” starring Anthony Hopkins, Julia Stiles and Ray Liotta. It’s set for a theatrical and VOD release on June 10.

Electric is also selling international rights at the Cannes Film Festival to Brad Silberling’s thriller “An Ordinary Man, ” starring Ben Kingsley; PBS drama “Mercy Street,” which premiered in January and is executive produced by Ridley Scott; and the drama “The Wannabe,” starring Patricia Arquette.

The deal for “The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea” was brokered by Electric Entertainment’s Zac Reeder and Ben Kim, and by WME Global on behalf of the filmmakers.
