Ridley Scott to be honored with 30th American Cinematheque Award

PanARMENIAN.Net - Ridley Scott will be honored with the 30th American Cinematheque Award. Ridley's colleagues and friends will be on hand to honor the director at an annual benefit gala held at the Beverly Hilton on October 14, AceShowbiz said.

"The American Cinematheque is extremely pleased to honor Ridley Scott as the 30th recipient of the American Cinematheque award at our celebration this year," Rick Nicita, American Cinematheque chairman, said in a statement, "To state it simply, Ridley Scott is one of the greatest directors in the history of the motion picture."

Rick continued, "From his first feature, 'The Duelists', to his most recent, 'The Martian', the films of Ridley Scott have combined keenly observed humanity with dazzling state-of-the-art effects and design in a style that appeals in equal parts to the eye and to the mind. He has indelibly affected our moviegoing consciousness with iconic movies such as 'Alien', 'Blade Runner', 'Thelma and Louise', 'Black Hawk Down' and 'Gladiator', just to name a few."

"In a business where careers burn brightly and then flame out, the pure longevity of his permanent residence in the very top tier of directors is astonishing. Adding to his luster, his production company Scott Free, formed with his brother Tony, has produced a long string of successful movie and television projects. We are thrilled to honor a true modern master," he concluded.

Previous honorees include Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Mel Gibson, Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, Robert Downey Jr., Al Pacino, Matt Damon and Reese Witherspoon.

Ridley is currently directing Michael Fassbender and Katherine Waterston in "Alien: Covenant" for an August 4, 2017 release. He will next direct Western movie "Wraiths of the Broken Land" for Fox.
