Media Luna acquires “Like Foam” ahead of Toronto Fest

PanARMENIAN.Net - In the run-up to Toronto, Germany’s Media Luna has acquired world sales rights to “Como la espuma” (Like Foam), an ensemble romantic comedy with LGBTQ elements set against the background of a wild party-turned-orgy, Variety said.

Emerging Spanish auteur Roberto Perez Toledo, a prolific writer-director of contempo relationship fictions – desperate wanna mother dramedy “Seis Puntos de Emma” (2011); “Los amigos raros” (2014), a “The Big Chill”-ish friends’ reunion drama – directs from his screenplay with Alberto Garcia (“La isla del viento”).

In some ways, “Like Foam” has a fairly classic set-up: An eclectic set of strangers attends a no-holds barred fiesta at a plush mansion, which re-generates into an orgy. But the film’s ensemble characters are mostly at the blow-out not just for a quick sex-fix but to solve or salve emotional hang-ups. Ensemble cast features a bevy of TV stars, such as Diego Martinez (“Rabia”), who plays a young orgy vet who dispatches advice to an innocent rookie, played by Sara Salomo (“B&b, de boca en boca”), one of Spain’s fastest on-the-rise actresses.

Actor-producer Carlo D’Ursi (“Black Diamonds”), “Like Foam’s” producer, and Jonas Berami (TV series “Isabel,” “Old Bridge’s Secret,”) also topline.

The orgy background adds spice and originality, plus multiple social media marketing opportunities, Variety said. In other manners, “Like Foam” stands on the industry cutting-edge of a new independent Spanish cinema. “Like Foam” is produced by D’Ursi’s Potenza, whose credits include “Black Diamonds” and Venice Days entry “The Memory of Water,” starring Elena Anaya, as well as David Krohnert at new Madrid label Pony Films and L.A.-based LA Panda. The latter two already linked for “People You May Know.”

100% financed by private equity, “Like Foam” will be released mixing windows and digital distribution channels since “the movie targets new Millennial audiences who have new ways of consuming this kind of content,” said LA Panda’s Pau Brunet.

“Like Foam” is designed as a “wide and all-inclusive audience hit” with LGBTQ and disability issues as “niche audience concepts,” D’Ursi and Krohnert added in a statement.

“We have been thirsty for a LGBTQ films with an original plot for a while and finally found in ‘Like Foam’ a unique love story,” said Ida Martins, Media Luna New Films CEO.
