Yerevan negotiating with Baku over return of Armenian citizen

PanARMENIAN.Net - A delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)in Armenia is conducting negotiations over the return of a 63-year-old citizen, Henrik Ahekyan, from Azerbaijan.

According to Tert.am, the head of a government-affiliated working group dealing with prisoners, hostages and missing persons, Armen Kaprielian, said they are taking every possible measure to ensure maximum efficiency.

“Negotiations are now underway, but I can provide no more details,” he said.

“We have no news at the moment over the Armenian citizen’s return. We are trying to undertake steps to return our compatriot as soon as possible.”

Yerevan is conducting negotiations through the ICRC, as Azerbaijan has been rejecting any direct contact with Armenia over the past five years, Kaprielian added.

Aghekian, a resident of the village of Aygepat, went missing about a week ago. Speaking to Tert.am, the village mayor, Seryozha Petrosyan, said he suffers from mental problems. Aghekyan had been reported missing on an earlier occasion and is known to have even attempted to cross the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
