Special New York forum to boost foreign investments in Armenia

PanARMENIAN.Net - New York City will host a special forum on attraction of foreign investments in Armenia's economy on October 10-11, the Voice of America cited Executive Director of Armenian Development Fund Karen Mkrtchyan as saying.

Set to be held in Wall Street, the event will feature speeches by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, as well as top executives of the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.

“This is the first event of its kind in the last 15 years, we don’t have a list of investors yet,” Mkrtchyan said.

The event is organized by the Armenian government and the Asian Development Bank, while heads of Hyatt Hotels, ABBYY, Reddit, PicsArt and many other companies will deliver remarks.

Solar energy projects, railway freight transport, the construction of the North-South highway, mine exploitation, prospects for agricultural development programs and the development of high technologies will be presented to investors.

According to Mkrtchyan, Armenia can still appeal to foreign investors despite the blockade [by Turkey and Azerbaijan] and corruption.

Also, he said, the amount of foreign investments in Armenia’s economy considerably dropped due to the country’s decision to join the Eurasian Economic Union instead of deepening economic ties with the European Union.
