Disney joins bidding war over Twitter

Disney joins bidding war over Twitter

PanARMENIAN.Net - The bidding war over Twitter just got a lot more interesting - with Disney apparently entering the picture, Digital Spy reports.

The Walt Disney Company is reportedly working with its financial team at this very moment in order to put in a bid to purchase the microblogging social media site, according to Bloomberg.

There's been no official comment from Disney yet, although even these latest rumblings have seen Twitter's stock price rocketing on Wall Street on Monday (September 26).

Buying Twitter would be a canny move for Disney, since its properties Marvel and Star Wars generate a massive amount of buzz among the social network's users.

Disney already has a connection with Twitter through its CEO Jack Dorsey, who was given a seat on The Walt Disney Company's board of directors in December 2013.

However, Disney definitely is not the only corporation interested in buying Twitter at the moment.

Along with Salesforce.com, there have even been reports of Google working on a bid to add Twitter to its ever-expanding profile.

Google previously ventured into the social media game with Google Buzz and Google+, although neither seemed to match the success of powerhouses Twitter and Facebook.

This purchase could help Google turn around its social media engagement trouble since Twitter already has a working infrastructure and user base that can be tweaked, rather than having to build from the ground up.

News of a possible sale comes as Twitter implements strategies to entice new users into joining its service.

Earlier in September, Twitter eased up its traditional 140-character limit for tweets by removing user handles, media attachments, GIFs, videos and polls from its character count.
