“Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” sequel eyeing “Don't Breathe” helmer

PanARMENIAN.Net - Following the success of his "Don't Breathe", Fede Alvarez is eyed to helm a follow-up to David Fincher's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011)". Uruguayan filmmaker is Sony's top choice to sit behind the lens for the sequel titled "The Girl in the Spider's Web", Variety said.

The movie will be based on the new novel by David Lagercrantz, who took over the series after its original author Stieg Larsson passed away. It centers on Lizbeth Salander and Mikael Blomkvist, who were played by Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig respectively in the first movie, as they uncover a web of government spies.

There is no information if the original stars will return. Oscar nominee Steven Knight is attached to write the screenplay. Scott Rudin, Amy Pascal, Elizabeth Cantillon and Yellow Bird's Ole Sondberg and Soren Staermose are on board to produce the upcoming movie, with David Beaubaire overseeing for the studio.

No release date and casting have been announced as of now, but the movie is reportedly on a fast track to be made next year. The project has been Sony's top priority since the studio acquired the rights to the book in 2015.
