“The Green Hornet” gets a “darker” rebook from "The Accountant" helmerNovember 16, 2016 - 15:02 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - "The Green Hornet" is getting a reboot treatment from Paramount Pictures. As AceShowbiz reports citing Deadline, the studio has acquired the rights to the movie. Gavin O'Connor is attached to helm the new version of the film which is said to be a darker take on the original. O'Connor, who recently directed Ben Affleck in "The Accountant", is working on the untitled The Green Hornet remake with Sean O'Keefe, who has been tapped to write the screenplay. The director will also serve as a producer along with Chernin Entertainment. O'Connor has been eagerly waiting for the chance to "make" "The Green Hornet" movie, saying that he's been tracking the rights for almost 20 years. "As a kid, when most of my friends were into Superman and Batman, there was only one superhero who held my interest - The Green Hornet," the helmer said. "I always thought he was the baddest badass because he had no superpowers." "The Green Hornet was a human superhero. And he didn't wear a clown costume. And he was a criminal - in the eyes of the law - and in the eyes of the criminal world," he added. "So all this felt real to me. Imagine climbing to the top of the Himalayas, or Mount Everest, or K2 over and over again and no one ever knew? You can never tell anybody. That's the life of Britt and Kato. What they do, they can never say. They don't take credit for anything." "The Green Hornet" was turned into a TV series in the 1960s with Van Williams and Bruce Lee starring as the feared Green Hornet and Kato respectively. It followed a newspaper publisher and his valet, a martial arts expert, who battle crime. In 2011, the big-screen version was made with Seth Rogen playing the titular character and Jay Chou stepping into Lee's shoes as Kato.
