Armed incident during Armenian ORO’s election campaign

PanARMENIAN.Net - A collision between supporters of Ohanyan-Raffi-Oskanian (ORO) bloc and the chief of the village of Jrarat in Armenia’s Armavir province was reported on Sunday, March 12.

An ORO spokesman, Aregnaz Manukyan explained that village chief Samvel Galstyan - who represents the ruling Republican Party - made threats to a fellow villager and ORO's supporter, “most probably as a way of expressing his embarrassment over the bloc’s successful election campaign.”

“Moreover, one of the people in the mayor’s entourage pointed a gun at the ORO supporter,” Manukyan said in a Facebook post.

Other participants of the campaign seized the gun and neutralized the offender.”

Manukyan claims that law enforcement officers, instead of hard-pressing the lawbreaker to keep law and order, detained several of ORO followers.

Police spokesman Ashot Aharonyan said later that “necessary measures have been taken” by local officers.

“Several people have been detained in Vagharshapat police department, the case will further be processed,” Aharonyan said.

Parliamentary elections will be held on April 2. Nine parties and blocs running for seats at the National Assembly have already launched their election campaigns.
