Library of Congress hosts Vardanants Day Armenian lecture

PanARMENIAN.Net - The 21st Vardanants Day Lecture was held at the Library of Congress, the Armenian embassy in the United States said in a tweet on Sunday, September 3.

Armenian ambassador to the United States Grigor Hovhannissian and renowned contemporary Armenian-American novelist Chris Bohjalian were among those delivering remarks at the event.

The Vardanants Day Armenian Lecture series was created in 1991. It is named after the Armenian holiday that commemorates the battle of Avarayr (AD 451) which was waged by the Armenian commander-in-chief Vardan Mamikonyan and his compatriots against Persian troops, which had been sent by the King of Kings in an attempt to reimpose Zoroastrianism on the Christian state.
