Armenia says predicted possible developments of Turkey protocols March 2, 2018 - 09:44 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - By launching the normalization process of relations with Turkey, Armenia was fully aware of the possible further developments, foreign minister Edward Nalbandian told a Security Council session after president Serzh Sargsyan scrapped the protocols. "Through the signing of protocols we sought to normalize relations, but we also realized that Turkey might not demonstrate relevant political will and respect its commitments," Nalbandian said on Thursday, March 1. "Time proved that our concern was righteous. Up to this day, the absence of any step towards the ratification of the Protocols from the Turkish side, continuous attempts to link the ratification of the protocols with preconditions, provocative statements against Armenia and Armenians voiced by Ankara vividly attest that Turkey is not ready to ratify and implement the Protocols." Sargsyan had said in his message during the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly on September 19, 2017 that the country will declare the protocols 'null and void' in spring of 2018.
