President aide denies proposal to sack top military sent back to Pashinyan![]() February 26, 2021 - 17:36 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - President Armen Sarkissian's office has denied sending Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's proposal to dismiss the Chief of the Army General Staff back to the government. Hasmik Petrosyan, a presidential aide, told PanARMENIAN.Net on Friday, February 26 that the information is not true. Some news outlets earlier cited former Justice Minister Arpine Hovhannisyan as saying that the President has allegedly refused to sign the proposal to sack Colonel-General Onik Gasparyan and has sent it back to Pashinyan. Armenia is facing a serious political crisis after the country's top military brass demanded Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's resignation. The PM, however, claims he had already dismissed the chief of the Army General Staff. The parliamentary opposition has already weighed in on the matter, urging against bloodshed and calling for a peaceful transition of power. Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution.
