Armenia: Kocharyan says will head bloc of parties in June elections

PanARMENIAN.Net - Former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan will head a bloc of parties at snap parliamentary elections scheduled for June 20, Kocharyan himself said in an interview with Russia's Channel One on Monday, April 5.

“I have led the country for 10 years but I have been non-partisan. I will participate as the leader of a bloc of parties, most likely of two parties,” he said, but did not specify which parties would join forces in the upcoming vote.

Also Monday, leader of the ruling My Step bloc, lawmaker Lilit Makunts said Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is expected to resign at the end of April.

Pashinyan announced on March 18 that Armenia will hold snap parliamentary elections on June 20. The PM came under fire after signing a statement with the Russian and Azerbaijani Presidents to end the war in Nagorno-Karabakh almost 45 days after the start of the military hostilities. Under the deal, the Armenian side was forced to return all the seven regions surrounding Karabakh, having lost a part of Karabakh itself in hostilities.
