72-year-old U.S. national detained at pro-Karapetyan rally

PanARMENIAN.Net - A 72-year-old US citizen, Rafael Sarkisyan, was arrested by an investigator during a rally in support of businessman and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan after allegedly issuing a death threat against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

His lawyer, Armen Andrikyan, submitted a petition for administrative supervision and a no-absence directive, but the court fully denied them, according to Panorama.am .

Andrikyan emphasized ongoing illegal actions in the criminal case. He highlighted that during the arrest, the investigator unlawfully seized Sarkisyan’s bank cards and cash—assets unrelated to the charges—which have not been returned, effectively depriving him of means to live.

The U.S. Embassy in Armenia has been informed of the situation.
