Viva Armenia stake not sold, only sale right approved

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian government has issued a clarification regarding media reports claiming it sold its 20% stake in Viva Armenia for $50 million. According to the statement, during its session on August 7, 2025, the government did not approve any sale transaction but instead granted itself the right to do so in the future.

Specifically, the decision allows the government to sign a share sale option agreement with the company’s other shareholder, Fedilco Group Limited. Under this agreement, the government acquires the right (but not the obligation) to require Fedilco Group Limited to purchase 110,000 ordinary shares from the government for $50 million at any point before May 15, 2028—provided the conditions outlined in the decision’s annex are met.

"In other words, the decision only reserves this right for the government, and whether to exercise it or not will be decided based on suitability," the statement said.

Earlier, media outlets had reported that the Armenian government planned to sell its 20% stake in Viva Armenia and would receive $50 million from the deal.

In February 2024, Viva Armenia donated 20% of its shares to the Armenian government.
