Gyumri mayor’s son faces new criminal charges

PanARMENIAN.Net - A new criminal case has been launched against Spartak Ghukasyan, son of Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan. The Armenian Investigative Committee confirmed the development, according to Radar Armenia.

The Shirak regional investigative department initiated the proceedings under Article 297, Part 1 of the Criminal Code (hooliganism), and Article 452, Part 3 (use of violence against an official or their close relative to interfere with their lawful duties or political activity).

The Investigative Committee stated that a preliminary investigation is underway.

Spartak Ghukasyan had previously been detained in a separate case involving extortion. The court has now ruled to place him under house arrest as a preventive measure, 1lurer.am reports.

“In the framework of the criminal proceedings initiated by the Shirak regional investigative department, the court decided to apply house arrest as a preventive measure against the defendant,” the publication reads.

Earlier reports indicated that Spartak Ghukasyan had been arrested and that a motion for pre-trial detention had been submitted.
