Yerevan to reconstruct unfinished Cascade section

PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian government has approved the investment project for the reconstruction of the unfinished section of the Cascade complex. The decision was announced by Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan on his Facebook page.

“Nearly a year of discussions and hard work has brought us to this key milestone. Many doubted the project’s success, but we believed, worked, and now it is officially approved,” Avinyan said.

According to the justification, the project aims to complete the Cascade complex as originally envisioned, establishing a connection between the city center and the monument to the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution. The plan will fulfill the architectural concepts of Alexander Tamanyan and later Jim Torosyan by enriching the city with a new landmark that fuses classical and modern design. The area will also gain new cultural and recreational opportunities.

The new section will include a concert hall, exhibition spaces designed with a contemporary art museum concept, and a separate venue for official state ceremonies, reports Sputnik Armenia. The surrounding area will be landscaped and turned into a vibrant cultural and entertainment hub. Multifunctional buildings to be constructed nearby will blend with the natural and architectural environment, replacing neglected and barren land plots.

Yerevan’s city hall received the investment offer on January 15 of this year. The only bidder and winner of the tender was a consortium of four companies, including one American firm, which submitted a proposal worth 20.046 billion AMD. As part of the agreement, the city obtained, free of charge, a design sketch created by renowned French architects (Wilmotte & Associés), which was chosen by public vote after about a month of discussions.
