Armenia announces draft for reserve officers![]() January 8, 2026 - 12:31 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - A mandatory military draft for the reserve officer corps of the Armenian Armed Forces has been announced following a decision by the Cabinet of Ministers. Between January 9 and 31, male medical specialists under 35, registered as part of the reserve officer corps, will be drafted for mandatory military service. The term of service has been set at two years. The 2025 draft will be organized and conducted in accordance with the Law on Military Service and the Status of Servicemen. It applies to male citizens who received military training while studying at higher education institutions and were qualified as part of the reserve officer corps. The plan is to draft up to 10 individuals and define the terms and procedures for organizing the conscription. As a result of floods in Armenia’s northern Lori and Tavush provinces, 17 bridges, including five large ones, have collapsed. David Vardanyan is the son of former Karabakh leader Ruben Vardanyan who who is currently imprisoned in Azerbaijan.
