Pashinyan says export rail route via Azerbaijan now open

PanARMENIAN.Net - Speaking in parliament during a Q&A session, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that Armenian businesses should acknowledge that the railway export route through Azerbaijan is now open.

“For the past 40 years, our entire logistics system was based on road transport. Trains require at least a certain volume, so we need to reconfigure our logistics approach. I officially say: it’s time to make that shift,” he said, as reported by Panorama.am .

He also confirmed that Armenia is considering connecting the town of Ijevan to Azerbaijan’s railway system, according to RFE/RL.

“In the context of unblocking regional transport, there’s practically no railway or route whose opening or reopening isn’t being considered,” the prime minister noted.

Pashinyan added that the railway section near Haghartsin is currently “interrupted” due to landslides, but he described the issue as solvable.

“If this railway shows export capacity and profitability potential, then it can move forward,” he emphasized.

He also noted that studies suggest the shortest route connecting Azerbaijan to Turkey runs through Ijevan.

Earlier, Russian Railways’ First Deputy CEO Sergey Pavlov said that wheat exports from Russia to Armenia via Azerbaijan have become regular.
