The activities of Estonia’s ambassador accredited to Georgia and Armenia, Marge Mardisalu-Kahar, have been terminated in Tbilisi following a decision by Estonia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Under the decision, the diplomat, whose residence had until now been based in Tbilisi, will continue her work from Yerevan starting in March, according to APA.
The change has been attributed to the deterioration of relations between Estonia and Georgia, as well as efforts to strengthen ties with Armenia. Mardisalu-Kahar will complete her mission in Georgia on March 10.
Until a new ambassador is appointed, Estonia’s embassy in Georgia will be headed by Chargé d’Affaires Gita Kalmet. Estonia’s Foreign Ministry has not specified when a new ambassador to Georgia will be named.
The decision to open an Estonian embassy in Armenia was adopted in November 2025. The diplomatic mission is expected to begin operations in March.
Estonia’s embassy in Georgia was opened in 2006, while Georgia’s embassy in Estonia began operations in 2007. Currently, Georgia does not have an ambassador in Estonia.
