Armenia scraps 65 age limit for public jobs

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia’s government has approved a legislative package that removes the 65-year age limit for employees in the public sector.

Commenting on the draft laws already sent to the National Assembly, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Arsen Torosyan said on Facebook that people should not be dismissed solely based on age, with exceptions applying to security and certain other fields.

“The age threshold for citizens working in the public sector is being removed, although there will be exceptions. In any case, we will no longer be required to dismiss our citizens once they turn 65, as this does not meet modern standards. People should not be fired on the basis of age,” the minister stated.

The government approved amendments to the law “On Civil Service” and related legislative drafts. The changes предусматривают отмену возрастных ограничений для занятия указанных должностей, ensuring that continued employment is not conditioned solely on reaching a specific age and eliminating age-based discrimination.

Additionally, public, community, and civil servants, as well as individuals appointed or elected to executive positions in state organizations, will be allowed to become foster parents, receiving compensation for the care and upbringing of children.
