Families with six children may get full housing aid![]() April 3, 2026 - 16:47 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The government has developed a state housing support program for families with six or more minor children, presented by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. The initiative will allow large families to acquire housing or build a home with 100% state subsidization, Factor.am reports. If adopted, it will come into force on January 1, 2027. According to available data, there are 643 such families: 390 have 6 children, 143 have 7, 76 have 8, 26 have 9, 5 have 10, 2 have 11, and 1 family has 12 children. According to the project justification, eligible families will be offered 4 million drams per minor child to obtain real estate through mortgage lending or to build a house. If a family chooses a rural area, an additional 4 million drams will be provided, which can be used to purchase land or agricultural property. The project also considers family size: a minimum of 10 square meters of living space per person is set. Based on cadastre data, in 2025 the average price per square meter in the regions ranged from 150,000 to 450,000 drams. With an average estimate of 300,000 drams, a family with six children would need at least an 80-square-meter apartment, for which 24 million drams in support is предусмотрено. It is also noted that currently only one state program operates—the 2020–2026 housing support program—under which assistance is provided as a one-time payment ranging from 500,000 to 3 million drams, while loan repayment is carried out by beneficiaries. If the new program is adopted, up to 31.9 billion drams will be required from the state budget over the next 10 years. This estimate is based on a scenario where all eligible families apply and half choose rural areas. Funds will be distributed depending on the number of children and corresponding loan conditions. Applications for participation will be submitted online until July 1, 2028. The system will verify data within 10 working days and determine eligibility. In case of approval, an electronic certificate will be issued; in case of rejection, a justification will be provided. Reasons for rejection include not being a citizen of Armenia, inconsistencies in submitted data, participation in other programs, exceeding income thresholds, or failure to submit a declaration. Applications will also be rejected if the family has already benefited from another housing program. It is also stated that if the provided support exceeds the loan amount, the remaining funds may be used for furniture, renovation, or equipment purchases. If a beneficiary dies during the loan period, payments will be terminated if the heir was not a family member, and previously allocated funds will not be returned to the state. As a result of floods in Armenia’s northern Lori and Tavush provinces, 17 bridges, including five large ones, have collapsed.
